2016 Year in Review


We are proud to have so many meaningful and relevant achievements this past year; below are our most praiseworthy accomplishments!

  • Welcomed 9 new Principal members and 5 new Associate members to the association.

  • Increased Principal member participation at general meetings by 26% since 2013.

  • Released a new Rigid Box Operational Metrics Report as well as a Crew Models Survey in addition to PPC’s regular portfolio of industry benchmarking data reports.

  • Formed an industry taskforce to streamline our industry’s marketing/sustainability messaging and provide members a toolkit for their own marketing initiatives.

  • Promoted diversity in the industry with two successful Women’s Leadership workshops.

  • Served as industry knowledge hub through our Vox Box Blog, weekly newsletter, white papers, informational website, legislative updates, and more.

  • Promoted the industry and the association by securing coverage in over 15 different industry and consumer publications across the globe.

  • Introduced a mobile meeting app for both Spring and Fall meetings.

  • At Spring Meeting in Miami, helped members to bridge generational differences in their businesses, and discover new ideas and spark the future, from keynote speakers Phil Gwoke and Magnus Lindkvist. 

  • Presented members with new leadership skills at Fall Meeting in San Antonio: Steve Wiley from the Lincoln Leadership Institute taught key leadership lessons from the nation’s history, while Graphic Packaging president and CEO Michael P. Doss provided his perspective on leadership and the direction of the industry.

  • Recognized our industry’s exception craftsmanship with the 73rd annual North American Paperboard Packaging Competition.

  • Brought winning designers together in a panel discussion during Fall Meeting to shed light on the design process approaches to innovation, and solving customers’ problems.

  • Through our TICCIT program, helped members across the country plant trees and educate children about the sustainability and recyclability of paperboard packaging.

  • Helped members navigate drupa 2016 by hosting walking tours and organizing specialized vendor visits.

  • Held a well-attended Technical & Production workshop that introduced the new technologies and developments from drupa to members’ production managers and other employees who were not able to travel to Germany.

  • Educated 50 employees from various members companies on the basics of papermaking and carton converting at our Folding Carton Boot Camps.

  • Presented David W. Scheible, former president and CEO of Graphic Packaging International with the Robert T. Gair Award, the industry’s highest honor for lifelong achievement in the industry.

  • Presented Volunteer Leader Awards to Marc Anderson of Graphic Packaging International and Bill Bloom of WestRock for their substantial contributions to the association.

  • Through our University Outreach Program and involvement with the Paperboard Packaging Alliance, donated 182 Ideas & Innovation design handbooks to university packaging design programs across the country, as well as facilitated donations of paperboard from members.

  • Provided industry representation at drupa 2016, Paper 2016, ECMA Congress, and the Paperboard Packaging Alliance’s Student Design Challenge judging week.
