Committees in Focus: New Generation Leaders

8/14/2017

At PPC, we strive to support our industry’s leadership at all levels, and that’s why we offer a New Generation Leaders Committee (NGL). Meeting twice per year at the association’s Spring and Fall Conferences, NGL brings together individuals from companies small and large who are currently in leadership roles or who are in leadership-track positions.

Though the participants are all fairly new to leadership, they come from very different backgrounds. There are members from family-owned businesses who are training to lead their firm into the next generation. Others have already come through a succession process and are now leading their companies. There are also folks from larger companies in key roles who are involved in mentoring or are being mentored for leadership positions.

As members of NGL, these new and upcoming leaders identify what they need in order to grow and succeed—and that self-determination has been crucial to the great value that participants have received from the group. The members generally take turns facilitating each session. The facilitator chooses the topic in advance, preps the materials (generally an article that serves as a jumping off point for conversation), and identifies key learning objectives for the group.

Over the years, the group has explored various case studies, models of leadership, methods for managing the self and others, as well as other developmental steps on the way to high-performing leadership.

The group places much importance on shared wisdom, shared experience, and open dialogue around common challenges and the resources needed for growth. This collaborative learning is a unique chance for new leaders in the paperboard packaging industry to benchmark their own development and growth as well as gain perspective from others in similar positions.

For those interested in joining NGL, please note that the sessions are open to one representative from any given company. This preserves the intimacy of the group and fosters participation and relationship-building among participants.

The next session will take place on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. during PPC’s Fall Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to jen@paperbox.org.
